RIYADH: King Salman received UK Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Dominic Raab in Riyadh on Thursday.
During the meeting, they reviewed bilateral relations between the two countries, ways of enhancing them, and the latest overall regional and international issues of common interest.
The meeting was attended by Prince Khalid bin Bandar bin Sultan, Saudi ambassador to the UK; Prince Abdul Aziz bin Saud bin Naif, minister of interior; Prince Faisal bin Farhan, minister of foreign affairs; Dr. Musaed bin Mohammed Al-Aiban, minister of state; the UK Ambassador to the Kingdom Neil Crompton, and a number of other officials.

Raab was also received by Deputy Defense Minister Khalid bin Salman. The pair discussed Saudi-British strategic partnership and ways to strengthen bilateral ties.

RIYADH: King Salman received Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani in Riyadh on Wednesday.

They discussed ways to develop and strengthen bilateral relations, especially in the economic and investment fields, as well as the latest regional developments. Later, the king hosted a luncheon in honor of the president and his accompanying delegation.

The king and Ghazouani also witnessed the signing ceremony of four agreements and memoranda of understanding between the two countries. They include cultural cooperation, civil service, and vocational and technical training.

On the Saudi side, the ceremony was attended by State Minister Prince Mansour bin Miteb bin Abdul Aziz, Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan and Finance Minister Mohammed Al-Jadaan, among other officials. Mauritanian officials also attended.

Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman visited Mauritania in December 2018, bolstering relations and renewing support for the country’s development efforts.

He expressed his “great satisfaction at the depth of the fraternal relations between the two brotherly peoples.”

Also on Wednesday, Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune arrived in Riyadh. At King Khalid International Airport, he was received by Riyadh Gov. Prince Faisal bin Bandar and a number of officials.

RIYADH: King Salman received US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Thursday, the second day of the US official’s three-day visit to Saudi Arabia.

They discussed the distinguished relations between the Kingdom and the United States. They also reviewed the position of the two countries on regional and international events.

Pompeo then visited American troops at the Prince Sultan air base, south of Riyadh, where some 2,500 US troops are stationed in response to threats from Iran.

“Pompeo’s visit to Prince Sultan air base and a nearby US Patriot battery highlights the long-standing US-Saudi security relationship and reaffirms America’s determination to stand with Saudi Arabia in the face of Iranian malign behaviour,” the State Department said in a statement.

“In response to the attacks and at the request of Saudi Arabia, the United States deployed missile defence, and fighter jets on a defensive mission to deter and protect against any future attacks.”

Pompeo is also met with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and deputy defence minister Prince Khalid bin Salman.

Pompeo’s visit to the Kingdom comes in the wake of a US-ordered drone strike that killed Qassem Soleimani, Iran’s most powerful general, as he visited Baghdad on January 3.

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s King Salman held talks on Monday with Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki in the capital Riyadh.
During the talks, they reviewed the bilateral relations between the two countries and developments in the Horn of Africa and the region.
They also discussed the importance and role of the Council of Arab and African States bordering the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden and ways of developing and enhancing opportunities for cooperation in various fields.
The meeting was also attended by Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan and his Eritrean counterpart Osman Saleh Mohammed, among other senior officials from both sides.
Last month, the new council was formed in Saudi Arabia aimed at securing the waterways of the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.
The council, which includes Egypt, Jordan, Eritrea, Yemen, Sudan, Djibouti and Somalia, will increase cooperation between the countries and aims to tackle piracy, smuggling and other threats in the seas that are key international shipping routes.
The Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden are two of the world’s busiest shipping routes connecting Europe to Asia and the Middle East.
King Salman also hosted a lunch banquet in honor of Afwerki and his accompanying delegation.
The Kingdom played a leading role in September last year in hosting historic talks between the leaders of Eritrea and Djibouti. The two nations have been at loggerheads for decades over a long-standing border dispute.

The prime minister expressed his happiness to meet King Salman.

During the talks, the leaders discussed bilateral and historical ties between the two states and ways of boosting them in several fields, as well as discussing regional updates.

Then, Sheikh Sabah Al-Sabah also met with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, as well as ministers and commanders of military sectors in the Kingdom

RIYADH: The secretary-general of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Dr. Naif bin Falah Al-Hajraf, on Monday called on King Salman. The king congratulated Al-Hajraf over his appointment as the GCC secretary-general and wished him success.
Al-Hajraf thanked the king and expressed his resolve to enhance cooperation between GCC countries and to achieve the aspirations of the Gulf leaders.  During the meeting, they reviewed several issues related to the Gulf countries.
Al-Hajraf is the second Kuwaiti to assume the position since the formation of the GCC in 1981.
He is the former finance minister of Kuwait and he has also served as minister of education and higher education.

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s King Salman met with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Monday at the Royal Court in the capital Riyadh.
A formal reception was held for Mitsotakis and his accompanying delegation upon their arrival in the Kingdom, which was attended by members of the royal family, ministers, and military leaders.
During the meeting, they reviewed bilateral relations between the two countries and means of boosting them in all fields, as well as regional developments.
The talks were also attended by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Saudi Foreign Minster Prince Faisal bin Bandar bin Abdulaziz, Interior Minster Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Nayef, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Adel Al-Jubeir, Finance Minister Mohammad Al-Jadaan, among others.

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s King Salman held a meeting on Thursday with Audrey Azoulay, the director general of the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), during her visit to Riyadh.

During the meeting, they reviewed UNESCO’s prominent efforts and ways to enhance and develop cooperation between the Kingdom and the organization in the fields of education, science and culture.

The meeting was attended by Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, Education Minister Dr. Hamad Al-Asheikh and Tamim bin Abdul Aziz Al-Salem, assistant special secretary to King Salman.

Azoulay also had a meeting with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on Thursday, during which the two reviewed Saudi initiatives and programs in the field of culture and means of enhancing bilateral cooperation in line with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 and UN’s Sustainable Development Goals 2030.
