PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) in Saudi Arabia welcomed 104 new graduates to its offices in the Kingdom. The new graduates are part of a larger pool of 322 new graduates who joined PwC across its 12 offices in the Middle East.
With the Kingdom ushering in a new era of change and a strong focus on nurturing and developing its local talent, this year’s PwC graduate intake, a record of 100 percent Saudi nationals, is a testament to the efforts already underway. PwC aims to play its part in bringing the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 to life and contribute to the local economy.
Riyadh Al-Najjar, PwC KSA country senior leader, said: “With the ever-changing trends shaping our region — from technological breakthroughs all the way through to demographic, socioeconomic shifts, resource scarcity among others — helping the communities in which we live and work to navigate these waves and help solve their most important problems has always been part of our DNA as a firm.

INNUMBERS

100% of KSA graduates are Saudi nationals.

35% of KSA graduates are women.

“We are also extremely proud of the fact that almost 35 percent of our new grads are women — our desire to help build the future female leaders of tomorrow continues to be a key priority for our firm.”

PwC Middle East People Partner Emma Campbell said: “At PwC, we are proud to provide the opportunity for graduates to be themselves, to work on their individual growth and to unlock their potential by offering them a fulfilling career and a rewarding professional journey within the firm. Technology, automation and artificial intelligence are disrupting how we work in this rapidly changing world; yet human intervention is always needed to help us achieve our purpose.
“We are committed to developing young talent and to pave the way for the leaders of tomorrow as part of our continued confidence to invest in the region.”
The graduates attended an induction session in Dubai, in which they interacted closely with the Middle East leadership team and received an overview of the firm and its strategy.

Capillary Technologies eyes Saudi market

Time: September 23, 2019

Capillary Technologies Founder and CEO Aneesh Reddy with Veda Holding Founder Fahad Alhokair signed the joint venture agreement.

Capillary Technologies, a software product company headquartered in Singapore, has entered the Saudi market, offering cloud-based software solutions to retailers and manufacturers.

Capillary has signed a joint venture agreement with Veda Holding, leading to the formation of a Saudi entity named “Capillary Arabia.”

The Riyadh-based Veda Holding was established in 2017 by Fahad Alhokair.

Capillary Technologies Founder and CEO Aneesh Reddy told Arab News: “Capillary is a 11-year-old firm, we started in 2008 from India and expanded to about 30 countries globally. We have 14 offices across China, Middle East and Southeast Asia.

“Over the decade, we have worked with hundreds of retailers, consumer brands and manufacturers on cloud-based software solutions, helping them to collect their customer data, derive actionable insights, connect one-on-one with consumers, set up an omni-channel store and build loyalty with consumers.”

He said artificial intelligence forms an integral part of their platform. “We have built the VisitorMetrix product, which accurately measures store visitors, gives detailed information on visitor demographics and stores conversion metrics. In the online world there are many tools available. We are the first one to build an offline click-stream, helping retailers know everything from store visit to purchase,” Reddy added.

He said that the company has worked with a number of large retailers in the Kingdom, such as Pizza Hut, Majid Al-Futtaim Group, KFC, Landmark Group, Herfy, and Alhokair group.

The company has had operations in the Middle East since 2012 and was dealing with customers in Saudi Arabia through its Middle East office.

“Saudi Arabia seemed to be a market where we did not have much of a presence, which is why we felt we should do a joint venture with one of the larger groups here and we saw great synergy with Veda Holding,” Reddy said.

“Under the joint venture with Veda, the product and the technology comes from us, while the local understanding and support comes from Veda. So it is a win-win situation for customers as most customers want us to have a local presence here and provide local support,” he added.

Reddy said consumers in the Kingdom are digitally aware as Saudi Arabia has one of the highest number of internet users in the world (80 percent).

“A very clear goal of Saudi Vision 2030 is the generation of more jobs in the retail sector and the focus on organized retail penetration up to 80 percent. This is aligned with what we aim to do in the retail market here. Vision 2030 also focuses on e-commerce and our products help in accelerating digital transformation in the Kingdom,” he added.

Philips will deploy its unique Tele-ICU platform — enabled by latest technology innovations in adaptive intelligence and predictive analytics.

Philips has introduced three health care technology projects in partnership with the Ministry of Health, at Saudi Arabia’s premier health care platform, the Global Health Exhibition.

The three digital health care projects will provide innovative solutions to address important areas in health care within Saudi Arabia. These projects are intended to enhance patients’ access and experience of care, improve the overall health of the Saudi population, create a stress-free environment for health professionals through time efficiency, and reduce the per-capita cost of health care.

The projects include an AI-enabled Radiology Operations Command Center (ROCC). The Ministry of Health and Philips are collaborating to optimize radiology operations and resources by establishing a state-of-the-art ROCC using Philips’ latest solutions and Philips’ design. Hyundai’s new Sonata sedan arrives in Saudi showrooms

Time: September 16, 2019

Hyundai’s new Sonata was welcomed at its official distribution partners’ showrooms in Saudi Arabia.

Hyundai’s new Sonata has arrived at its official distribution partners’ showrooms in Saudi Arabia — Wallan Trading Company, Mohamed Yousuf Naghi Motors, and Almajdouie Motors. The model offers customers a sleek four-door coupe body style that highlights the brand’s latest “Sensuous Sportiness” design language.

Created at Hyundai’s California Design Studio, the redesigned Sonata enters the market with a more assertive profile, a freshly styled cascading grille framed by distinctive lighting elements, and an entirely new rear. Chrome accents surround the daylight opening (DLO) and fresh wheel designs complete the look. The new bodywork is built on Hyundai’s latest third-generation platform, for a completely re-engineered driving experience.

“Since its very first generation more than three decades ago, each evolution of the Sonata has set the standard for quality and value among mid-size sedans, and this latest model also leads its market for style, innovation and technology,” said Mike Song, Hyundai’s head of operations for the Middle East and Africa. “Hyundai Sonata has always been well received by our customers in the Saudi market. The all-new Sonata will encourage them to reconsider their expectations in the sedan segment, offering them something more rewarding, sportier and more exciting than what has been available before.”

A hallmark of the new Sonata’s exterior is its Hyundai-first LED daytime running lights — embedded in a chrome strip. The strip appears as chrome when the engine is turned off, but lights up when the driver starts the car. When night falls, available LED headlamps with dynamic bending light illuminate the road ahead.

Interior fittings include a standard seven-inch color display audio touchscreen with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, and a Qi wireless charging pad is available to keep smartphones topped up. The new Sonata also adds a second-row USB charge port. At the heart of the AVN system is a Bose Premium sound system equipped with 12 speakers.

“The all-new Hyundai Sonata delivers a premium experience for both driver and passengers,” said Song. “We apply a range of new technologies intuitively, with an emphasis on functional convenience, adding features that we know our customers will use and value.”

The model features nine standard airbags and a wide range of safety systems, including advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) as part of Hyundai’s latest SmartSense technologies.

Aramco CEO in call for ‘ultra clean energy’

11/09/19

“We must continuously remind all our stakeholders that we are a global industry at the cutting edge of science, technology, engineering and logistics, supported by a complex global supply chain,” Nasser said. (AFP)

Oil giant chief takes aim at climate change deniers during global oil industry gathering in Abu Dhabi
ABU DHABI: There is no limit to the oil industry’s potential if it can meet society’s demand for “ultra clean” energy, Amin Nasser, the president and chief executive of Saudi Aramco, told delegates at the World Energy Congress in Abu Dhabi.

“The world faces an incredible climate challenge and we need a bold response to match. In my view, that means the entire industry must come together around a new mission beyond our gates of making oil and gas much cleaner across the full spectrum of end-use applications,” Nasser said.

His comments were seen against the background of Aramco’s long term strategy to be regarded not just as a pumper of crude oil, but as a diversified high technology energy group with a strong sense of corporate social responsibility. Nasser spoke recently of a “crisis of perception” in the oil industry.

“We must continuously remind all our stakeholders that we are a global industry at the cutting edge of science, technology, engineering and logistics, supported by a complex global supply chain,” Nasser said.

In an apparent swipe at climate-change deniers, he hit out at those who do not recognize the need for alternatives to hydrocarbon fuels to meet rising global energy demand.

“Many governments are adopting policies that do not appear to consider all the complex aspects of global technology, the long term nature of our business, and the need for orderly transitions — policies that seem to assume there are quick and easy answers to the many challenges that alternatives face,” he said.

Nasser added that throughout Aramco’s history, it had a competitive edge in four key areas: Resource abundance, safe production, reliable supply and affordability. “But meeting society’s expectations requires a fifth. Quite simply, our products need to be much cleaner,” he said.

He added that the world was “at a turning point” in the search for cleaner forms of energy. “The good news is that we are not starting from scratch,” he said, highlighting Aramco’s halt to gas flaring, its low upstream carbon intensity, and low methane levels by industry standards.

He also underlined Aramco’s commitment to a range of technologies with transformative potential for the whole global oil industry, like advanced integrated engine fuel systems and carbon capture techniques.

“This is the latest turning point in our history, and we must, once again, lead the turn,” Nasser said.
