RIYADH, SAUDI ARABIA: Members of KSrelief’s MASAM teams successfully deactivated 1,112 land mines during the third week of June 2020, including 5 anti-personnel mines, 321 anti-tank mines, 772 pieces of unexploded ordnance, and 14 other explosive devices planted by Houthi militias in various parts of Yemen.

A total of 170,546 explosive devices planted by Houthi militias in Yemen, including in schools and homes, have been removed by MASAM teams since the beginning of the project. Militias planted more than one million explosive devices in the country, many of them disguised as ordinary objects such as rocks and children’s toys. A large number of innocent Yemenis, including children, women and the elderly, have been killed and injured by these devices, which remain a serious threat to public safety.
