The contribution of King Salman’s relief in saving the governorates of Yemen through projects that included food security, the residential sector, health and education

Since its establishment on the 13th of May 2015, King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center has implemented many humanitarian and relief projects in the Yemeni province of Al-Mahra, which involved the food and shelter security sector, the health sector and the educational sector. The center represents Saudi Arabia’s desire to alleviate the suffering of the needy and to fight the humanitarian crisis endured by her siblings.

The country responded to the urgent appeal of the United Nations on the 6th of September 2015, and provided housing assistance that benefited 857,596 individuals in the governorates of Mahra, Sana’a, Aden, Taiz, Hadramout, Hodeidah, Ibb, Abyan, Lahj, Shabwa, Al Bayda, Al Jawf, Al Mahwit, Dhamar, Hajjah, Marib, Al Dhale’e, Amran, Rimeh, Saada, Socotra Archipelago, with a value of 31 million and 79 thousand dollars. And that was in cooperation with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. On the 14th of November 2015, the Center aided the areas affected by Hurricane Chabla and Mig, which included the governorates of Mahra, Hadramawt and Shabwah, benefiting 28,835 individuals, which valued at 605,655 US $. And that was in cooperation with the Reform Society.

In addition, on the 14th of November 2015, the center distributed 218,250 sacrificial lambs in the governorates of Al Mahrah, Hadramawt, Shabwa and Ma’rib. That was in cooperation with the World Assembly of Muslim Youth, and it benefited 217,250 individuals and was valued at $ 900,000.

On the 30th of October 2017, the Center distributed 500 food baskets to Al Mahra Governorate, in cooperation with the Al Khair Humanitarian Relief Coalition, benefiting 30 thousand people with a value of $ 349,733. On the 1st of  March 2018, it distributed  375 thousand cartons of dates weighing 3,000 tons in the governorates of Al Mahrah, Sanaa, Aden, Taiz, Hadramout, Hodeidah, Ibb, Abyan, Lahj, Shabwah, Al Bayda, Al Jawf, Al Mahwit, Dhamar, Hajjah, Marib, Al Dhali ‘, Amran, Rima, Saada and Socotra Archipelago. The aid benefited two million and 250 thousand individuals and it amounted to 12 million and 278 thousand US dollars, and it was in cooperation with the Charitable Coalition for Humanitarian Relief.

On the 20th of April 2018, the KSRelief, and in cooperation with the Charity Coalition for Humanitarian Relief, distributed 70,000 sacrificial lamps in the governorates of Mahra, Hadramout, Shabwa and Ma’rib, which benefited 426,000 individuals, with a total value of 13 million and 460,000 USD.

On the 15th of May 2018, the Center distributed 102,170 food parcels in the governorates of Al-Mahra, al-Jawf, Hadramout, Socotra, Shabwa, Lahj, al-Dhali`, Aden and Marib. That was in cooperation with the Charitable Coalition for Humanitarian Relief, benefiting 613,020 people with a value of $ 7 million. It also implemented a fasting breakfast project in Yemen for the year 1439 AH corresponding to the 16th of May  2018, in cooperation with the Taiba Charitable Foundation, which included the governorates of Mahra, Ma’rib, Al-Jawf, Shabwa, Aden, Hadramout, Abyan, Taiz, Hodeidah, Lahj, Al-Dhalea and Al-Bayda, benefiting 264,080 individuals with a total value of $ 500,000.

On the 18th  of September  2018, the KSRelief distributed 75,000 items of clothing and 1,000 cartons of food to widows in the governorates of Mahra, Shabwa, Marib, Hadramaut, Al Dhale’e, Aden, Lahj, Abyan, and the Socotra Archipelago, benefiting 25,000 individuals, with a value of one million and 421,000 US dollars. On the 17th of 2018, The center also implemented a campaign for the relief of Al-Mahra Governorate to counter Hurricane Laban, which was in cooperation with the Coalition for Good Humanitarian Relief, and which benefited 61 thousand individuals, at a value of 839.066 thousand dollars. On the 12th of February  2019, the center distributed 125 thousand cartons of dates weighing one thousand tons in the governorates of Al-Mahra, Lahj, Aden, Taiz and Marib Shabwa, Al-Dhali ‘, Al-Jawf, Hajjah, Sanaa, Hadhramaut and Al-Har Dida, in cooperation with the Charity Coalition for Humanitarian Relief. The aid benefited 750,000 individuals and valued at 4 million and 325,000 USD.

Furthermore, on the 20th of April  2019, the center provided and distributed dry meals for the fasting people during the holy month of Ramadan, which included the governorates of Al Mahra, Sana’a, Hadramout, Abyan, Lahj and Al Dhale’e, in cooperation with the Yemeni Development Network for Civil Organizations, benefiting 306,600 individuals, with a total value of 666.666 thousand dollars. On the 1st of May 2019 the center provided emergency shelter assistance, in cooperation with the Charity Coalition for Humanitarian Relief, which included the governorates of Mahra, Sana’a, Aden, Taiz, Hadramout, Hodeidah, Ibb, Abyan, Lahj, Shabwah, Al Bayda, Al Jawf, Al Mahwit, Dhamar, Al Dhale’e, Amran, Rima, Saada, Archipelago, and Socotra, and that benefited 12 thousand individuals, with a value of  one million and $ 257 thousand.

On the 5th of May 2019, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates offered a grant to the World Food Program to provide food and nutrition aid to the governorates of Mahra, Sana’a, Aden, Taiz, Hadramout, Hodeidah, Ibb, Abyan, Lahj, Shabwah, Al Bayda, Al Jawf, Al Mahwit, Dhamar, Hajjah, Marib, Al Dhale’e, Amran, Rima, Saada, and Socotra Archipelago, benefiting 13 million and 200 thousand individuals, with a total value of $ 120 million.

On the 5th of May 2019, KSRelief distributed 20,000 sacrifices in the two governorates of Al-Mahra and Ma’rib, in cooperation with the Yemeni Development Network for Civil Organizations, benefiting 480 thousand people with a value of two million and 581 thousand dollars. The Center also implemented the  project of “Dressing your joy is our joy , Eid Al-Fitr Initiatives 1440 AH ” corresponding to May 20, 2019, in cooperation with the Sala Foundation for Development, in the governorates of Al-Mahra, Aden, Marib and Hadramout, benefiting 4,244 individuals, with a value of 266,680 USD. Moreover, the Center implemented the project of “ Wearing Your Joy is Our Joy 2, the Joy of Eid Al-Adha 1440 AH – 2019 CE) corresponding to July 23, 2019, in cooperation with the Sela Foundation Development, in the governorates of Mahra, Al Dhale’e, Lahj, Al Hudaydah, and Of Hadramout, Marib, Aden and Socotra, benefiting 15 thousand people, which amounted to 533.869 thousand US dollars.

On the 17th of October 2019, the center also distributed 20 thousand cartons of meat, in cooperation with the Yemeni Development Network for NGOs, in the governorates of Mahra, Abyan, Taiz, Hajjah, Shabwa, Aden, Lahj, Marib, and Sana’a. 480,000 people benefited from them and they costed two million and 666 thousand US dollars. On the 3rd of January 2020, the center offered food aid in the governorates of Al-Mahra, Hadramout, Marib and Al-Jawf, in cooperation with the Charitable Coalition for Humanitarian Relief. 90,000 people benefited from it, and it valued at 3 million and 253 thousand US dollars.

Concerning health, water, environment and  sanitation projects, the Center, on the 2nd of March 2017, worked on implementing the water supply project in Yemeni governorates that involved Al Mahra Governorate, in cooperation with the Charitable Coalition for Humanitarian Relief, benefiting two million and 914 thousand people, at a value of one million and 353 thousand dollars. On the 2nd of March 2017, The Center, in cooperation with the Al-Khair Humanitarian Relief Coalition, implemented a project to combat malnutrition in several Yemeni governorates which included Al-Mahra Governorate, and it has benefited 348,468 people, at a value of two million dollars.

On the 15th of June 2017, the center implemented a project in response to cholera treatment in some Yemeni governorates that included Al-Mahra Governorate, in cooperation with the World Health Organization, which benefited 17 million and 100,000 individuals, with a value of 8 million and 224 thousand dollars. The center also implemented the cholera epidemic treatment and control project in several Yemeni governorates. That was on the 12th of December 2017 and in cooperation with the World Health Organization. It benefited 181,386 individuals and valued at $ 22 million and $ 38,000.

On the 12th of December 2019, the cholera epidemic treatment and control project was implemented at the coordination stage in several Yemeni governorates, including Al-Mahrah, benefiting 181,386 individuals. It valued at $ 701.165 thousand. On the 13th of February 2018, a cholera treatment project was implemented in the prevention phase in several Yemeni governorates, including Al-Mahrah. 11 million and 230 thousand people benefited from it and it valued at 4 million and 22 thousand dollars.

A cholera treatment project has also been implemented in the surveillance phase in various Yemeni governorates, including Al-Mahrah, on the 13th of February 2018. 11 million and 230 thousand people benefited from it and it valued at 5 million 843 thousand dollars. A cholera treatment project was implemented at the diagnostic stage in several Yemeni governorates, including Al-Mahra on the 13th of February 2018. 192 thousand people benefited from it and it amounted to one million and 93 thousand dollars.

The Center worked to improve the level of vaccination coverage among children under the age of 5 in a number of Yemeni governorates, including Al Mahra Governorate, in cooperation with UNICEF on May 29, 2018, with a value of 4 million and 775 thousand US dollars. It also sought to secure the needs of dialysis centers in a number of Yemeni governorates, including In Al-Mahra Governorate for a period of 6 months on the 11th of August 2018. 500 people benefited from it and it amounted to 5 million and 600 thousand US dollars. The center supported relief and humanitarian projects in a number of Yemeni governorates including Al-Mahrah Governorate (fighting the cholera epidemic) on the 22nd of May 2019, in cooperation with the World Health Organization, 1.084.000 people benefited from it, with a value of $ 10 million. The center conducted integrated nutrition interventions to tackle severe acute malnutrition in areas at great risk of starvation in Yemen, including Al-Mahra Governorate, in cooperation with UNICEF, on May 22, 2019, benefiting one million and 400 thousand people with a value of $ 20 million. It also provided insurance Medical devices and supplies and laboratory for Al-Ghaydah Directorate Hospital in Al-Mahra Governorate, which was in cooperation with the Yemeni Ministry of Public Health and Population, on the 15th of April 2018. 28 thousand people benefited from it and it valued at $ 386,666. The center helped cancer centers with drugs and intravenous solutions in a number of Yemeni governorates, including Al-Mahra Governorate, in cooperation with the Ministry of Public Health and Population of Yemen in the 25th of November 2019, 2 thousand individuals benefited it and it valued at $ 74.996.

In the educational sector, King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center provided 2,000 tables and chairs to support the educational process in Al Mahra Governorate through the “Together for Education in Yemen” project.
