In an interview with Al Arabiya English, Aramco’s Chief Executive Officer, Amin H. Nasser said in that the company began offering scholarships to Saudi female employees to study abroad in 1981.
In an exclusive documentary set to broadcast on Al Arabiya News Channel on Tuesday, June 26, Nasser said these grants were the first of the company’s efforts in qualifying Saudi women to work in various fields, including in engineering disciplines. Throughout Aramco’s history, the company continued to employ women in multiple departments and that the opportunities offered by the company to women were not limited to specific sectors.
Aramco has doubled its employment figures for Saudi women over the past 10 years, in line with the company’s drive to further empower women.
Three years ago, Saudi Aramco launched a special unit to train women in leadership positions and has raised the number of women in those roles from four to 84.
At the same time, Aramco has said that Saudi women continue to demonstrate their ability to work in the company, and go on to hold high leadership positions and enjoyed the same opportunities as men, and that Saudi women played an equally important role in the various fields of work in the company’s departments, enabling it to invest all its creative energy in the success of the company alongside their male counterparts.
